Media advisory: accreditation available for the hydropower industry’s only national annual event in Canada

Who: WaterPower Canada, the voice of the hydropower industry in Canada, invites media to attend the only national annual event for the industry: the 2021 Canadian Waterpower Week.

The event will unite over 400 industry experts and stakeholders from Canada, U.S. and Europe. Our attendees are: 40% decision-makers from hydropower generators, 35% senior executives and experts from supply chain, and 25% key industry stakeholders (government, academia, think tanks).

What: Over three days, the program will span from high-level discussions about the role of hydropower on the path to net zero, to concurrent sessions deep-diving intro pumped storage hydro, green hydrogen, and electrification of transportation, to a full day of continuous education sessions.

High-level discussion sessions include:

Opening Keynote Address with Dolf Gielen (Director, IRENA Innovation and Technology Center). Dolf will set context for Canadian Waterpower Week’s theme “Building Toward Net Zero”, by establishing the importance of hydropower in the urgent decarbonization of electricity generation globally.

Industry Leaders in Conversation: The Central Role of Hydropower in Building Toward Net Zero with Amanda Lang (Anchor, BNN Bloomberg), Hilde Bakken (EVP Production and Industrial Ownership, Statkraft), Sophie Brochu (President and Chief Executive Officer, Hydro-Québec), Will Gardiner (CEO, Drax Group), and Chris O’Riley (President and CEO, BC Hydro).

Closing Senior Executives Plenary Session: Building Toward Net Zero: Projects and Investments on the Road to 2030 (and Beyond) with Ryan MacDonald (Senior Editor, Climate, Environment and Resources, The Globe and Mail), Nicolle Butcher (Senior Vice President, Renewable Generation and Power Marketing, OPG), Terry Miles (Director, Integrated Resource Planning, Manitoba Hydro), David Murray (Chief Innovation Officer and Executive Vice President, Hydro-Québec).
